Drama therapy is like a journey where the therapist is the guide helping the character navigate and overcome obstacles to reach their destination.

What is drama therapy?

Drama therapy is one of the art therapies forms. Its application is extensive and it can help any person improve their emotional, cognitive, physical and social health.

Unlike theater, drama therapy purposefully uses elements of drama and theater – role plays, stories, fairy tales, metaphors, dreams, masks, make-up, objects, dolls, photographs, videos – to achieve therapeutic goals – to reduce the symptoms, reach mental and physical integrity and personality growth.

There are no special artistic or acting talents or previous experience in theater art required to get involved in drama therapy.

Drama therapy is recommended

  • For persons with mental health disorders (depression, eating disorders, behavioral and emotional disorders, personality disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety and panic attacks, post-traumatic stress syndrome, etc.), especially during the social rehabilitation period after the acute condition has subsided;
  • Clients/patients with learning difficulties, behavioral disorders, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders, as well as mental development disorders;
  • For clients/patients with various addictions (psychoactive substances, gambling, etc.);
  • For clients/patients who have somatic diseases (including oncological diseases, HIV, AIDS, etc.);
  • For clients/patients who have emotional and psychological difficulties.
